2012 Chevrolet Volt

General Motors and OnStar are launching a program to send data instantly from Chevolet Volt electric cars back to the power grid so utilities can better manage their energy demands.

The program uses the OnStar system to monitor a vehicle's battery charge. Utilities could then better balance demand and offer incentives to electric vehicle owners who charge their vehicles during off-peak hours. The program will include hundreds of Volts leased by General Electric for its employees.
