Green is a major theme at most international auto shows. Fuel-efficient, environmentally-friendly rides that reduce our dependency on oil and cut our carbon footprint are popular and noteworthy. But at the Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland, green takes on another meaning: it’s the colour of money. This is the show of all car shows – filled with affluence, abundance, and extravagance. And the only way to get a glimpse of these vehicles is to hop on a plane to Geneva because unfortunately these ten beauties aren't coming to Canada anytime soon.
1. Pagani Huayra
2. Koenigsegg Agera S
Powering the Agera S from Christian von Koenigsegg, founder of the Swedish company that bears his name, is a 5-litre twin-turbo V-8 engine which pumps out a heart wrenching 1,040 hp. Definitely not built for Canadian roads, it’ll hit 0-100 kms in only 2.9 seconds.
3. Zenvo STI
4. Audi S1
The high-performance S1 from German auto maker Audi is a stunning, small hatchback that is practical and performance based. Under the hood is a 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, which pumps out 231 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. This canary yellow hatch will hit 0-100 clicks in less than 6 seconds.
5. Gumpert Apollo S
It’s impossible to miss this gorgeous Apollo S from supercar manufacturer Gumpert. This beauty will hit 100 km/h in only 2.9 seconds thanks to its twin-turbo V-8 engine. An eye-popping red shade and brushed aluminum make it a looker. Beware of the price: €535,000 ($816,132)
6. Fiat Freemont Cross
7. Touring Superleggera Disco Volante
Two years ago, the Touring Superleggera Disco Volante was a mere concept at the Geneva Auto Show. But now this emerald gem with gold wheels is a production coupe that shares the same engine as the Alfa Romeo 8C – it’s a 4.7-litre V8. Only about 500 will be up for grabs.
8. Giugiaro Clipper
From Giugiaro comes the funky Clipper concept. It’s a functional people mover with six individual seats, four gull-wing doors, and with no B-pillar, it’s easier to slip into the two rows of rear seats. The interior is equally futuristic with a host of digital displays and tech gadgets.
9. Rinspeed XchangE
10. Quant e-Sportlimousine
The Quant e-Sportlimousine is a four-seater electric concept car powered by four electric motors. No gas required! A compact flow cell battery gives this vehicle a range of up to 600 km. With its sleek lines and gull-wing doors, it’s a show stopper.
