Deals of the Week: As big SUV sales tumble, so do the prices

Globe and Mail Update

Large SUVs (sport-utility vehicles) are a tough sell. Buyers, watching their budgets, are flocking to smaller SUV and crossovers such as the Toyota RAV4, Ford Escape and Honda CR-V, leaving larger rigs a bit out in the cold.

Enter the deals. We looked at three larger but not too huge SUVS, and found an average factory discount of $3,600, according to www.carcostcanada.com.

Granted, the average is skewed by the $6,000 factory-to-dealer rebate on the Jeep Grand Cherokee. But every member of this trio comes with money in the trunk.

We also noticed a $500 factory-to-dealer rebate on the Kia Rondo wagon. That’s not a huge discount, but the Rondo offers excellent overall value without any large discounts. Families looking for a smaller and very functional vehicle, might want to take a run at getting a good deal on a Rondo.
