Amber Mac in her Ford Focus

I've been using Twitter since 2007, the popular micro-messaging platform that now has more than 200 million active users. While I used to rely on search engines to tell me where to eat and shop, with one simple tweet I can now get more relevant recommendations from a community of friends and contacts online.

In this episode of On the Road, I rely on my Twitter network to help me discover the best restaurant in Kensington Market, a tiny but vibrant area in Toronto's downtown core. Once I load up the famous "Twitter bird" on the MyFord Touch™ screen (simply by inserting a USB stick into the car's port and replacing the default image), it's time to drive west to grab dinner before I do a guest interview on the web show Nat & Marie.

For the first time in a couple of weeks, it was raining hard in Toronto. The all-new Ford Focus' rain sensing wipers made seeing the wet roads ahead a lot easier, thanks to how the wipers swing out from the bottom corners of the windshield and clear away all the moisture instead of leaving spots to eventually drip down into my line of vision.

Although I've lived in the city for a few years now, I have to admit I don't know Kensington Market all that well. Once I pulled over to get some Twitter-inspired dining recommendations, the on-screen map helped me to navigate to El Trompo, a delicious Mexican restaurant that opened in 2003. The company's claim to fame is its Taquitos, but I opted for the tacos instead and was stuffed after polishing off a yummy plateful of food.

Just across the street from the restaurant, my friends Nat & Marie were expecting me for a 9pm live webcast start. Their show is in its second season, but this was my first time joining the "cast." We chatted for a good 10 minutes and then I jumped back into my bright yellow ride on what turned out to be a perfectly clear and warm fall night in the city and a wonderful view from the Gardiner Expressway of Toronto's downtown core.
