Traffic cop nabs driver on the phone

SUDBURY, Ont.— The Canadian Press

A 19-year-old woman in Sudbury, Ont., apparently didn't notice a police officer directing traffic as she talked on a cellphone while making a turn.

The woman was making a left turn when an officer directing traffic for a funeral escort noticed her on the phone.

He stopped the woman and gave her a $155 ticket for using a handheld device.

Provincial law prohibits the use of handheld devices behind the wheel.

Police across Ontario have handed out 46,000 tickets to drivers using cellphones since officers started enforcing the ban a year ago.
