The long July 1 weekend may be a time for you to slow down and take it easy. Or not. Because if you want put the pedal to the metal and nail down a quick deal on a fast car, well, they're out there.
The big battle seems to be between the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet's Camaro. Deals of the Week looked at comparable V-8 versions and found thousands in discounts sitting on the hoods of both.
Why the sweet offers?
Ford is anxious to stop the bleeding on Mustang sales. The Camaro has been enjoying banner sales in North America at the Mustang's expense, apparently.
Automotive News has reported that the Mustang is falling behind the Camaro as the top-selling U.S. sports car. Ford lost the crown in 2010 after a 24-year run. The Camaro, added Automotive News, had out-sold the Mustang by 33 per cent through May.
So it's a Mustang versus Camaro battle out there. That puts the Dodge Challenger in a tough spot.
Chrysler Canada has not yet resorted to Employee Pricing, as GM of Canada and Ford of Canada have both done. But it may happen yet. Without it, the deals on a new Challenger, while notable, are hardly stunning, as you can see below.
This brings us to a European import which Deals noticed. The BMW 128i coupe is being pushed with a $2,000 factory-to-dealer discount. It can be combined with 0.9 per cent financing and whatever dealer discount a buyer might be able to negotiate.
Note that some of these offers were slated to expire at the end of June, though Deals of the Week would suggest that any buyer ready to sign would most likely be able to nail down a contract with these sales sweeteners.
If you want a good deal on a fast car over what for many will be a slow long weekend, this might be your chance.
