A lot of Halton police officers have been crashing their cruisers – so many in fact – that the cops have been ordered to take some driving classes.

In the first six months of this year, police cars have been involved in 70 accidents – and officials say 41 were preventable.

Sergeant Dave Cross says that's why they're instituting a mandatory online driving course.

Some of the accidents were caused by going too fast for the conditions, following too closely and making improper turns.

But the main reason cited for preventable collisions was police officers simply backing into things -- often in mall parking lots.
