deals of the week

It seems that practically every auto maker is trumpeting their best 2015 clearout deals this time of year as big cash rebates and low rates are seemingly becoming the status quo. How do you know a deal is truly a great one?

To help answer this, we are re-launching Deals of the Week with a new data driven approach. We've started methodically tracking auto maker incentives for essentially every new vehicle in the marketplace and have now enlisted data scientists and industry experts at Unhaggle, who will pour through that data to identify the most noteworthy deals each week.

For more on why new car shoppers should care about incentives, check out this previous Globe Drive story. Here are the most noteworthy deals in September so far:

Honda

2015 Honda Civic

The perennial bestselling car in Canada just got even more attractive with a total cash rebate of $2,500 available to cash purchasers in September (compared to $2,000 in August). This is the largest cash rebate seen in the history of the 2015 Honda Civic model year. In fact, the 2014 model also peaked with a rebate of $2,500 until it sold out.

If history is any guide, now is a great time to buy, especially considering $1,000 of the rebate is still available even if taking advantage of discounted financing at 0.99 per cent interest for up to 84 months (which is also a historic low for the Civic). This deal is available for all Civic Coupe trims and Civic Sedan LX, EX, and Touring trims.

2015 Honda Civic Sedan EX CVT

  • MSRP: $22,250
  • Manufacturer incentive: $2,500
  • Estimated dealer discount: $650
  • Freight, PDI, Government. Fees: $1,630
  • Cash purchase price before tax: $20,730
  • Finance for 84 months at 0.99 per cent for $311 per month including HST (includes $1,000 manufacturer incentive applied after tax)

Hyundai

2015 Hyundai Santa Fe

The Hyundai Santa Fe’s total cash rebate of $4,500 in September (compared to $3,500 in August) is made even more attractive by the fact that it can be fully combined with discounted financing at 2.59 per cent interest up to 96 months on all trims of both the Santa Fe XL and Santa Fe Sport. We haven’t see this size of rebate on the Santa Fe since 2012, so the Santa Fe should be high on your consideration list if shopping for a family friendly SUV.

2015 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport Premium AWD

  • MSRP: $33,199
  • Manufacturer incentive: $4,500
  • Estimated dealer discount: $1,000
  • Freight, PDI, Government. Fees: $1,930
  • Cash purchase price before tax: $29,629
  • Finance for 84 months at 2.59 per cent for $436 per month including tax (includes $4,500 manufacturer incentive applied before tax)
Lexus

2015 Lexus NX 200t

The aggressively styled NX 200t was introduced into the Lexus model lineup less than a year ago and was the first ever Lexus to feature a turbo engine. This makes the current total cash rebate of $4,000 in September on the NX 200t base model surprising. The total cash rebate was only $1,000 in August and nil before that.

2015 Lexus NX 200t

  • MSRP: $41,450
  • Manufacturer incentive: $4,000
  • Estimated dealer discount: $1,750
  • Freight, PDI, Government. Fees: $2,180
  • Cash purchase price before tax: $37,880
  • Finance for 60 months at 3.9% for $796 per month including tax (includes $4,000 manufacturer incentive applied after tax)

Ford

2015 Ford Focus

Ford Employee Pricing is famous for promising great savings, but the deals get even better when combined with Ford’s Costco Member Offer. The Focus has historically been excluded from additional Costco discounts as profit margins are slimmer on small vehicles, but that has changed in September with a new $500 rebate now available on 2015 Focus SE and Titanium trims to all Costco members in addition to Ford Employee Pricing savings starting at $1,317 off.

2015 Ford Focus Sedan SE

  • MSRP: $19,199
  • Manufacturer incentive: $1,317 (Ford Employee Pricing)
  • Bonus incentive: $500 (Ford Costco offer)
  • Freight, PDI, Government. Fees: $1,700
  • Cash purchase price before tax: $19,082
  • Finance for 84 months at 2.29 per cent for $279 per month including tax (includes Ford Employee Pricing and Ford Costco Offer applied after tax)
