Bieber gets a Bugatti

Social media lit up last week when pop bad boy Justin Bieber posted a selfie with his new Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport to Instragram and the caption, "Uncle Stunna luv. My first Bugatti #generosity." Uncle Stunna, as any self-respecting hip-hop gangsta knows, is Birdman, a rapper and record producer who according to various reports, gave Biebs the exotic 1,001-horsepower $2-million (U.S.) supercar as a gift.

Auto makers get their kicks

First, Chevrolet announced that it will sponsor Manchester United's friendly against the Los Angeles Galaxy on July 23. The game – called the Chevrolet FC Cup and to be played at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. – will be the first for the English Premier League titans under its seven-year shirt sponsorship pact with the General Motors brand.

Not to be outdone, Nissan last week announced a four-year partnership with the UEFA Champions League. The Japanese auto maker has replaced Ford as the official car sponsor of Europe's elite club soccer competition and the deal includes sponsorship of the UEFA Super Cup, in which the Champions League winner plays the UEFA Europa League champ.

Quotable

"The number is big, but the faults are minor and not critical."

Takaki Nakanishi, a Tokyo-based analyst for Jefferies Group LLC, on last week's recall of 6.4 million vehicles worldwide by Toyota.
