When a car's acceleration is discussed, the benchmark is the time it takes to sprint from 0-100 km/h. But that seems insignificant compared to the speeds the Koenigsegg One:1 can hit.

The hypercar pumps out 1,340 horsepower and weighs 1,340 kilograms – hence the name One:1, referring to its power-to-weight ratio. This is a ride built completely for speed.

Videos last month showed the car hitting speeds of more than 350 km/h on an airstrip and dominating the Suzuka Circuit, but the point to this car is to smash records.

In 2011, Koenigsegg set the 0-300-0 km/h record in an Agera R with a time of 21.19 seconds. Last week, practice sessions were held at Koenigsegg's test track in Sweden with the goal of besting that record. They succeeded: the car completed the task in 17.95 seconds. It completed the acceleration phase of 0-300 km/h in 11.92 seconds.

Driver Robert Serwanski even has his hands off the wheel blasting past 250 km/h.

However, because the run was done during practice, it doesn't officially count – but hints at what the car will be capable of during a sanctioned attempt.

Reports say Koenigsegg is planning to take the car to the infamous Nurburgring Nordschleife to break the lap record for a production car.
