Tom Meents, an 11-time Monster Jam champion and the first person to attempt a back-flip, shot his truck up in the air Saturday evening and held on as it flipped forward landing on its rear tires and tail before flipping again and landing on all four wheels.

In doing so, the Max-D driver made history as the first driver to complete a front-flip, but because he didn't land cleanly, he failed to establish a Guinness World Record.

Tens of thousands of fans at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey – home to the New York Giants and Jets – watched the flip.

Meents and his team used a special mechanical ramp designed to flip the 1,500-horsepower truck forward as it launched off the 88-degree ramp.

"It's always been a dream of mine to be the most extreme Monster Jam driver out there," Meents told Fox Sports before the attempt. "Everybody thinks front flipping a Monster Jam truck is impossible. But from the time I was a little boy, I've always focused on doing what it takes to make the impossible possible."

Here is a video about the science behind the ramp and the truck.

Meents and his team's next challenge is landing a double back-flip.
