The Ajax GO Transit parking garage and a Green P lot on Claremont Street in Toronto have been honoured as two of the seven winners of the International Parking Institute’s (IPI) 2014 Awards of Excellence.
Who knew there was even such an award? Turns out this is the 32nd year for the annual competition and the Ajax GO Transit lot won for best design of a parking facility with more than 800 spaces while the Claremont Street space received honours for best design/implementation of a surface parking lot.
“Canada’s stunning Ajax GO parking garage appears to be a green box floating lightly above the ground anchored by glass towers with an origami-inspired canopy, making it one of the city’s architectural treasures,” the IPI said in a press release.
As for the Claremont Street lot (located north of Dundas Street west of Bathurst Avenue), the IPI said it “has been praised by the neighbouring community for meeting and exceeding the city’s development and greening standards for surface parking facilities.”
The other award-winning lots were located in Memphis, Boston, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, Calif., and Missoula, Mont.
The judging panel was comprised of architects, parking corporation, city, airport, and university officials.
