Fifteen years ago, when the price of gas was 57.5 cents a litre in Toronto and 52.6 cents in Calgary, who'd have thought?
Toyota has reached a milestone by selling its 100,000th hybrid vehicle in Canada, the company announced on Wednesday.
More than three-quarters of hybrids sold in Canada over the past 15 years have come from the company's Toyota and Lexus divisions.
Today, as the price of gas has reached a national-average of $1.36 a litre, Toyota offers the Prius, Prius v, Prius c, Prius Plug-in, Camry Hybrid and Highlander Hybrid. Lexus offers the CT200h, ES300h, GS450h, LS600h, and RX450h and soon the NX 200h. The RX450h is manufactured in Cambridge, Ont.
Natural Resources Canada recognized the three Prius hybrids and the Highlander as most fuel-efficient in their respective classes.
Seiji Ichii, president and CEO of Toyota Canada Inc., claimed in a statement that the company's hybrids have subtracted greater than 600,000 tons of CO-2 emissions since the year 2000.
