More than $16.3 million worth of Brass and Classic era metal was purchased by collectors and enthusiasts at RM Sotheby's recent auction in Hershey, Penn.
Top sales honours went to the 1913 Pierce-Arrow Model 66-A Seven Passenger Touring, which sold for $830,500 (all prices U.S.), more than $200,000 above its pre-sale estimate.
"Brass era powerhouses were the hit of the week," said Gord Duff, a car specialist for RM Sotheby's, in a statement. "The most exciting moment coming as our auctioneer, Max Girardo, opened bidding on the 1913 Pierce-Arrow, igniting a fierce competition that had the crowd roaring with every raise of a paddle."
The second top earner, also from the Brass era, was a 1911 Oldsmobile Autocrat 'Yellow Peril', which sold for $698,500. A 1914 Rolls-Royce 40/50 HP Silver Ghost Landaulette, which sold for $577,500, round out the top three.
The Classic era is considered to run from the Great Depression to the end of the Second World War and the Brass era is generally considered to encompass 1896 through 1915.
