Aecon gains $64-million in Ontario contracts Add to ...

Aecon Group Inc. has been awarded three contracts for highway construction in Ontario valued at $64-million, the company said Wednesday.

The contracts include an agreement with the Ontario Ministry of Transportation valued at $29-million that begins this month.

Aecon will upgrade the northbound lanes of Highway 400 along a 16.2 kilometre stretch, from Highway 11 to Highway 93 north of Barrie, Ont., with project completion set for November, 2013.

The company has also signed two other highway contracts valued at $35-million to upgrade the Highway 407 ETR in the Toronto area.

The project, which is already under way, widens the Highway 407 median along a 10 kilometre stretch from Highway 401 to Trafalgar Road. Other construction of sewers and signs is included.

"These projects are a natural fit for Aecon," said chief operating officer Teri McKibbon in a release.

"Aecon has been building highways in Ontario for over 80 years, including construction of the original Highway 407, and we are proud to continue this tradition with these important projects."
