Aecon Group Inc. has a preliminary agreement worth $250-million to do interior work on a new process mill at the Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan Inc. mine site in Saskatchewan, the Toronto-based construction company announced Monday.
The project will create about 800 jobs at the construction site near Rocanville, Sask., with preparation work to begin early next year and completion scheduled for the fall of 2013.
Aecon said its Lockerbie and Hole division has signed a letter of intent with Potash Corp. for the work.
The deal calls for the installation of utilities and equipment for the new mill and all processing equipment, which will process potash from a nearby mine.
Last month, Aecon was awarded a similar project on a smaller scale at Potash Corp.'s Picadilly mine in New Brunswick.
Aecon acquired Lockerbie & Hole, an Alberta-based mechanical construction contractors, in 2009 for about $220-million.
"Our Lockerbie and Hole Eastern division has more than 40 years of experience installing the complex mine site equipment and systems needed to operate processing plants like this one," said Teri McKibbon, Aecon's chief operating officer.
