Stock being delisted from Toronto Stock Exchange at the end of Friday's trading

Winnipeg The Canadian Press

CanWest Global Communications Corp. CGS-T says its shares will begin trading on the TSX Venture Exchange starting Monday, after being delisted from the Toronto Stock Exchange at the end of Friday's trading.

The delisting from the Toronto Stock Exchange has been expected since the Winnipeg-based media company put major portions of its business under court protection from creditors.

CanWest's conventional television stations and a few of its specialty cable channels are currently covered by the court protection, which is designed to allow insolvent companies work out an arrangement with its creditors.

CanWest's newspapers and most of its specialty cable channels are still outside of court protection and all of the company's operations continue to operate while the corporate restructuring goes ahead.

The Toronto Stock Exchange suspended trading of CanWest shares last month.
