Convenience store operator Couche-Tard Inc. says it has a deal to acquire 27 locations in the state of Washington through its Circle K division, which operates throughout the United States.

The Montreal-area company, which operates Couche-Tard and Mac's banners in Canada, says the price of the acquisition is being kept confidential.

All but one of the Sun Mart stores offers motor fuel, with 19 under the Shell brand and seven under the Exxon brand.

The stores will be switched to the Circle K brand after they're acquired from Sun Pacific Energy.

The deal will further expands Couche-Tard's extensive North American network, where is has 5,803 locations. The company, based in Laval, Que., recently made its first move into Europe with the acquisition of Statoil Fuel & Retail.

That $2.9-billion cash deal added more than 2,300 stores in northern Europe, primarily in the Scandinavian countries of Norway, Sweden and Denmark as well as in Poland.
