Lipper fund awards: the best of the best

The fund universe is a vast, strange place filled with opportunity and risk from around the globe. Most Canadians prudently stick to investments they understand. Canadian and U.S. medium and large-cap equity, fixed income and dividend funds are popular, but they don't necessarily provide great results (or even beat the market).
So where are the big returns? Emerging markets? Gold? Surprisingly, six of the top 10 Lipper funds are Canadian equity funds, with the remainder consisting of global resource and precious metal funds. All of them boast three-year annualized returns of more than 20 per cent, but success like this doesn't come cheap. A few of them feature eye-popping management expense ratios as well.
