We will be making changes to the Globe Investor and Report on Business home pages as well as to our stock-quote pages in the coming days. This post will guide you through the modifications and explain the rationale for the changes that we're making.

The first change is to navigation. Not being able to find things easily is one of the most common complaints in our customer-satisfaction surveys and we are trying to improve this.

On Globe Investor:

  • We are adding a link to Portfolio & Tools, our enhanced offering of investing tools for Globe Unlimited subscribers, as well as our enhanced Screener. Access to My Watchlist will be unchanged.
  • To make room for this, we are moving the links to Market Data and Investor Education from the dark-grey bar to the light-grey bar just below it.
  • We’re adding quick links to popular ETFs and Mortgages content that can be hard to find otherwise, as they are deep in the site.
  • Some links that are duplicated in the site footer and the Data & Tools area, on the right side of the home page, are being removed so that they’re always found in a consistent location. This is where you'll find your Basic Portfolio.

On Report on Business:

  • We’re adding a Special Features area to the home page where we’ll move links for our many seasonal data reports.
  • You’ll find quick links for Law, Housing, Currencies and Business Education, which were hard to find in subsections before.

Frequent users of the stock-quote pages will know that we're working on a newly designed format for a more in-depth look at the companies you're following.

Not only is the new format easier to navigate, but we're introducing much-improved charting including:

  • An interactive format that will allow you to select and zoom to a custom timeline.
  • Trend, volume momentum and fundamental technical indicators never offered for free on Globe Investor before.
  • The ability to compare with smartly chosen indices and peers as well as compare the stock with a mutual fund.

You can access interactive charting by selecting the grey rectangle icon at the top right of the default five-day performance chart.

Up until now, these new pages have been an option to try, but we will be making the newly designed page the default for selected tabs. If you still prefer the old layout after trying the new one, you can switch back at any time.

While the key company metrics and financial statements on the new pages are very similar to the old layout, we are working with a new data supplier to improve the quality of the metrics on these pages. Data integrity is a core value for our readers and for us. All metrics need to be verified as accurate, have internal consistency across our web site and apps and be delivered as quickly as possible. These changes are one step in that direction and we will be making more revamps in the coming months to address consistency across our digital properties.

As always, we're interested in your feedback on the refinements and we'll be reading and considering all of your comments.
