The companies that make the list are the largest publicly traded Canadian corporations, measured by assets. They are ranked according to their after-tax profits in their most recent fiscal year, excluding extraordinary gains or losses.

This year, we've made some improvements to the Top 1000 database. Now you can search for companies by name and sort the list by any of its variables, including industry, profit change, revenue and market cap. A smaller version of the table is also available on mobile devices.

Want to see more rankings? We've also compiled Canada's 50 biggest private companies, Canada's 100 biggest companies by revenue, Canada's 100 biggest companies by market cap and 100 Canadian companies with the highest return on equity.

In addition to our rankings, there are dozens of articles and videos by the Report on Business team that provide analysis and insight into the companies that have risen and fallen in the ranking this past year. You'll find them all on the Top 1000 homepage.

If you're interested in an even more in-depth list, Report on Business has research and sales-prospecting packages available for sale in spreadsheet format.
