Shares on both Bay and Wall Streets picked up where they left off Friday and rose at the opening bell Monday. The materials and energy indexes provided most of the lift as the S&P/TSX rose 51 points or 0.38 per cent to 14,191 in the first few minutes of trading. The top gainers included Nova Chemicals Corp. up 3.57 per cent to $37.75, Northern Orion Resources up 3.54 per cent to $6.15 and Northgate Minerals Corp. up 3.08 per cent to $3.35, while the most active stock  was Bombardier Inc. It was up 2.2 per cent to $6.51 on a volume of 736,478 shares. The Dow Jones industrial average, meanwhile, was  up 20 points or 0.14 per cent to 13,658 and the Nasdaq composite rose 2.6 or 0.06 per cent to  2,268.
