Consumer confidence hammers stocks Add to ...

Wall Street dropped to session lows after U.S. consumer confidence slid to a two-year low as consumers were less upbeat about the job market, according to the Conference Board. The Dow industrials plunged 73 points on the report after spending the first 30 minutes of trading at a 30-point deficit. Also weighing on sentiment is another report about the battered U.S. housing market ahead of a Federal Reserve policy meeting.
