A daily rundown of the economic reports and corporate earnings that will be grabbing the market's attention in the week ahead.

Monday August 31

Japan reports July industrial production. A 0.8 per cent year-over-year increase is expected.

The euro area reports August consumer price index, expected to show a 0.1 per cent year over year increase.

U.K. markets are closed for a bank holiday.

India reports its real gross domestic product for the second quarter, expected to be a year-over-year gain of 7.4 per cent.

(8:30 a.m. ET) Canada reports its second quarter current account deficit. Estimates are for $68-billion.

(9:45 a.m. ET) The U.S. reports the Chicago purchasing managers index, expected to come in at 54.7.

Earnings include: Imperial Oil Ltd, Snipp Interactive Inc., Tweed Marijuana Inc.

Tuesday September 1

China reports August manufacturing PMI, expected to come in at 49.7.

Japan reports second quarter capital spending, expecting an 8.9 per cent year-over-year increase, and August manufacturing purchasing managers index, expected at 51.9.

The euro area reports August manufacturing PMI, expected to come in at 52.4; the jobless rate for July is expected to come in at 11.1 per cent.

(8:30 a.m. ET) Canada reports second quarter real GDP, with the consensus expecting a decrease of 0.9 per cent for the annual rate.

(9:30 a.m. ET) Canadian and U.S. automakers report August car sales.

(10:00 a.m. ET) U.S. reports August Manufacturing ISM, estimates expect a reading of 52.6.

(10:00 a.m. ET) U.S. reports July construction spending, expected to show a 1 per cent increase.

Earnings include: Bob Evans Farms Inc., Dollar Tree Inc., Shoe Carnival Inc.

Wednesday September 2

The euro area reports its July producer price index, which is expected to decline 0.1 per cent or -2.1 per cent year over year.

(8.15 a.m. ET) U.S. reports the ADP national employment report for August. Expecting an increase of 200,000 jobs.

(8:30 a.m. ET) U.S. reports second quarter productivity, with consensus of an 2.5 per cent increase at an annual rate.

(9:45 a.m. ET) U.S. reports the New York ISM for August.

(10:00 a.m. ET) U.S. reports July factory orders. Consensus is for a 0.7-per-cent increase.

(2:00 p.m. ET)  The Fed releases the Beige Book on economic activity.

Earnings include: Canadian Western Bank, Five Below Inc., SeaChange International Inc.,  Laurentian Bank of Canada, Navistar International Corp., Oxford Industries Inc.,  TransGaming Inc., Vivendi.

Thursday September 3

Chinese markets are closed.

Japan reports August services and composite PMI.

The European Central Bank holds a monetary policy meeting.

The euro area reports August services PMI (54.3); composite PMI (54.1), and July retail sales, expected to come in at an increase of  2 per cent year-over-year.

(7:30 a.m. ET) U.S. releases the Challenger Layoff Report for August.

(8:30 a.m. ET) Canada releases its July merchandise trade deficit. Consensus is for it to be $1.5-billion.

(8:30 a.m. ET) U.S. reports on initial jobless claims for the week of Aug. 29. Expectations are for 273,000, up 2,000

(8:30 a.m. ET) U.S. reports on its July goods and services trade deficit, exptect to come in at $41.1-billion.

(10:00 a.m. ET) U.S. reports August non-manufacturing ISM, expected at 58.4.

Earnings include: Campbell Soup Co., Ciena Corp., Genesco Inc., Lands End Inc., UTi Worldwide Inc., VeriFone Systems Inc.

Friday September 4

Chinese markets are closed.

(8:30 a.m. ET) Canada releases August unemployment report, expected to show a decline of 2,500 jobs and a rate of 6.8 per cent, the same as July.

(8:30 a.m. ET) U.S. reports its August employment data, expected to show a gain of 230,000 jobs and an unemployment rate of 5.2 per cent, down a notch from July. It will also report average hourly earnings for August, expected to be up 0.2 per cent.

(8:30 a.m. ET) Canada releases its August average hourly wages, expect to show a 2.9 per cent year over year increase, and its second quarter labour productivity, expected to show a 0.7 per cent decline.

(10:00 a.m. ET) Canada reports the Ivey purchasing managers' index.

Earnings include: DelMar Pharmaceuticals Inc.
