Jim Gilliland, president and CEO of Leith Wheeler Investment Counsel Ltd.

For this week's live discussion at Inside the Market, we were joined by Jim Gilliland, president and CEO of Leith Wheeler Investment Counsel Ltd. of Vancouver. We had a broad discussion on the direction for interest rates and equity markets, and how investors can best position their portfolios for what's to come. We also found out his latest strategies that income investors can use for their dividend and bond holdings in anticipation of higher interest rates.

Jim, who is also head of Leith Wheeler's fixed income group, earned his Masters degree in Financial Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley, and also holds a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. Jim joined Leith Wheeler in 2009 and was previously with HSBC Asset Management/M.K. Wong & Associates in Vancouver and Barclays Global Investors in San Francisco. During his more than two decades in wealth management, he has managed a team of money managers covering interest rate strategies, corporate credit, securitized credit, and emerging markets. He also launched and managed a fixed income hedge fund.

Leith Wheeler manages the assets of some of Canada's most prominent and successful pension funds, charitable endowments, First Nations trusts and other institutional funds.

Jim last joined us in September of last year, and you can find an archive of that discussion here.
