Stock prices retreated at the opening Thursday as Wall Street focused on a profit plunge by Bear Stearns Co., while the Toronto Stock Exchange was hit by more weakness in the energy sector. The Dow industrials slipped 25 points in the first few minutes of trading, led by a 1.1 per cent slide by General Electric Co. The TSX composite index fell 27 points, with financials easing and golds soaring.
