MARKET OUTLOOK

The S&P 500 had a 23% rise since late November. It was overdue for a rest. The U.S. market may stay in a narrow trading range through April and early May, before another upleg could occur. On the other hand, the S&P/TSX Index has significantly underperformed during this time (11.5%), due mainly to the underperformance of the financial sector, and may continue to lag unless the energy and material sectors start to improve.
