Shares of the largest U.S. chemical maker rose after the CEO laid out ambitious restructuring plans designed to boost earnings following the $16.3-billion (U.S.) purchase of Rohm & Haas.

Wal-Mart WMT-N slogans we'd like to see: 1) Big-ass stores. Big-ass lineups. Big-ass profits; 2) All the goodness China has to offer – right here in the U.S.A. 3) The brands you trust – and plenty you don't. Sure, the quality is often suspect, but it doesn't seem to be hurting Wally-World's bottom line: Third-quarter profit came in at $3.24-billion (U.S.), topping expectations.

Advanced Micro Devices

Amazing how $1.25-billion (U.S.) can smooth over years of hatred and mistrust, isn't it? That's the amount Intel, the world's biggest chip maker, agreed to pay smaller rival AMD to settle claims that Intel abused its dominance by offering inducements to customers who refrained from buying Advanced Micro Devices AMD-N products. Just to show there are no hard feelings, the companies also signed a five-year cross-licensing deal..
