Genuity research co-head resigns

Globe and Mail Blog Post

Genuity Capital Markets co-head of research David Hodgson resigned Monday, with the top-ranked technology analyst expected to eventually end up on the buy side of the Street.

Mr. Hodgson helped found Genuity four years ago and told partners Monday that he plans to depart this spring, and eventually restart his career with a money manager.  He is one of three co-heads of research at the Toronto-based investment bank, which is coming off a strong year that included lead roles in several technology IPOs.  Before joining Genuity, Mr. Hodgson was at Orion Securities.

Genuity is two-deep on tech coverage, with analyst Richard Sung also covering the space. The employee-owned dealer considers technology an important market and sources at Genuity said Monday they will move quickly to keep coverage of companies that Mr. Hodgson covered.  Mr.Hodgson's predecessor as head of research at Genuity, Andrea Horan, is also now a money manager; it's a familiar career path on the Street.
