Globe and Mail Update

Candian Imperial Bank of Commerce said Tuesday it has named Don Roberts vice-chairman of renewable enery and clean technology in its wholesale banking business.

His task will be to integrate the ways that CIBC's investment banking, lending and trading businesses go after clients in the renewable energy and clean technology sectors, as well as exploring opportunities in the emerging carbon and water markets and the future of the forest industry.

"It is clear that the market for clean and renewable sources of energy is growing in Canada and across North America," said Richard Nesbitt, CEO of CIBC's wholesale banking division. "Governments across the continent are drafting and enacting legislation to create new opportunities for green technologies. Many Canadian companies are emerging as leaders in the sector and will need increased access to capital."
