Cisco Systems Inc. reported stronger than expected first-quarter results for fiscal 2010 indicating the economy is recovering as business spending picks up, said Richard Gardner, an analyst with Citigroup Global Markets. The improvement occurred without the full impact of new products, he said.
Upside: The shares are reiterated “buy” and the price target was raised to $28 (U.S.) from $25. (Nov. 5). -
Torstar Corp. (TS.B-T )
Torstar Corp. results will depend on a recovery in employment and real estate, said RBC Dominion Securities analyst Drew McReynolds. The better than expected third-quarter operating profit reflected a profit margin of 19.5 per cent at the Harlequin division, compared with the 12.7 per cent forecast, due in part to an accounting change.
Upside: The shares are reiterated “sector perform,” although the price target was raised 50 cents to $9. (Nov. 5). -
Home Capital Group Inc. (HCG-T)
Home Capital Group Inc., which is engaged in mortgages and credit-card lending, indicated profit growth would come in part from its healthy mortgage securitization business, said Jennings Capital analyst Marc Charbin. The third-quarter profit reflected positive mark-to-market revisions on derivative contracts.
Upside: The price target was raised to $52 from $46. The share profit is forecast at $4.04 in 2009 and $4.36 in 2010. (Nov. 5). -
Qualcomm Inc. (QCOM-Q )
Qualcomm Inc. has cautioned investors about chipset market demand and the adverse impact of two licensing disputes, but its long-term prospects are positive with the growth of wireless demand and cellphone technologies, said Allan Mishan, managing director of semiconductor equity research for Brigantine Advisors.
Upside: The 2010 profit forecast was reduced to $2.20 (U.S.) a share from $2.40. The price target was lowered to $49 from $53. (Nov. 5).
