Acme Packet Unveils Net-Net 3820 SBC for Service Providers and Enterprises08:30 EDT Tuesday, May 11, 2010 BURLINGTON, Mass. (Business Wire) -- Acme Packet® (NASDAQ: APKT), the leader in session border control solutions, today announced the introduction of the Net-Net® 3820, the newest member of its session border controller (SBC) product family. This platform is targeted at both small to mid-sized IP communications service providers, and mission-critical enterprise and contact center applications. The Net-Net 3820 complements Acme Packet's Net-Net 2600, 4250, 4500 and 9200 platforms, and further strengthens the industry's most comprehensive and scalable portfolio of session border control solutions. The Net-Net 3820 is a NEBS-compliant platform that extends the capabilities of the original Net-Net 3800 platform by including support for single or dual hot-swappable AC or DC power supplies. In addition, the Net-Net 3820 doubles the session capacity of the Net-Net 3800 from 4,000 to 8,000 sessions, and can be configured as a Net-Net Session Director (SD), a decomposed Net-Net Signaling Firewall (SF) or a session routing proxy (SRP). “Tier 2 and tier 3 service providers require cost-effective, carrier-grade solutions for deploying next-generation services. At the same time, today's demanding enterprise VoIP, unified communications and IP video conferencing applications require high-availability platforms to ensure business continuity,” said Seamus Hourihan, executive vice president of marketing and product management for Acme Packet. “The Net-Net 3820 offersservice providers, enterprises and contact centers a highly flexible, NEBS-compliant SBC platform for trusted, first-class interactive communications across IP network borders.” Configuration Options The Net-Net 3820 supports two distinct SBC configurations: the integrated Net-Net Session Director (SD) or the decomposed Net-Net Signaling Firewall (SF). The Net-Net 3820 SD delivers tightly coordinated signaling and media control on a single system. The Net-Net 3820 SF offers SIP signaling security and other control functions to protect itself as well as data center or core service delivery elements from signaling attacks and overloads. Configured as Acme Packet's session routing proxy (SRP), the Net-Net Session Router (SR), the Net-Net 3820 efficiently routes SIP-based interactive communication sessions—voice, video, instant messaging and multimedia—within and between networks. In Acme Packet's Open Session Routing Architecture (OSR), the Net-Net 3820 SRP works in conjunction with best-of-breed routing database products and services from Acme Packet partners.
