Major Columbian Port Implements Navis Analytics and Navis Monitor to Improve Operational Performance08:01 EDT Tuesday, June 08, 2010 OAKLAND, Calif. (Business Wire) -- Zebra Enterprise Solutions (ZES), a division of Zebra Technologies Corporation (NASDAQ:ZBRA), announced today that the Sociedad Portuaria Regional de Cartagena (SPRC) in Colombia implemented its business intelligence software, Navis Analytics and Navis Monitor. SPRC is the fifth terminal in the world to deploy the solution, and the first to implement its data mart feature. With a culture of running business based on concrete data, SPRC implemented these applications to enhance its ability to monitor real-time performance and analyze historical operational data so as to make better business and operational decisions. SPRC manages the infrastructure, facilities and port logistics services in the Port of Cartagena in Cartagena, Colombia. The port handles more than 850,000 TEU every year. A twenty-foot equivalent container unit or TEU is a standard measure in intermodal transport. Through the use of Navis Monitor and Analytics, SPRC can better analyze productivity and throughput trends, identify areas of improvements; as well as determine how well vessel operation performed against plan, and track yard utilization. SPRC also plans to integrate the software's data mart with data from its other applications such as invoicing, maintenance and repair. Doing so will allow SPRC to perform revenue, cost and profitability analysis in order to get a more complete picture of the port's business. “Prior to working with ZES, we used a home grown system to collect data and information at the terminal,” said Eduardo Bustamante, IT director at SPRC. “Now that we are using Navis Monitor and Analytics, we will be able to get more detail and accurate information that will allow us to continuously improve operational productivity. Ultimately, we expect to lower costs, improve customer service, and enhance our negotiation power.” Navis Monitor, a real-time performance monitoring application, improves terminal operational efficiency by enabling managers and staff to stay focused on operational goals and on identifying emerging issues; as well as strengthen customer relationship because managers can proactively update customers with real-time performance information. Navis Analytics, a cost-effective reporting and analysis solution, helps terminal management make better strategic decisions faster, improve business processes with rich historical operational intelligence; as well as allow integration of operational and third party information for greater leverage. The analysis solution also reduces paper-work and manual steps in data entry and report generation. “Using data has always been an important part of our culture and how we do business,” said Captain Salas, General Manager at SPRC. “Using this new system from ZES gives us accurate information quicker, helping us make more informed decisions to improve our business.” In addition to the Port of Cartagena, SPRC is considering this software for its second site, Contecar, to better analyze the performance of both terminals. “Our business intelligence software will give SPRC a competitive advantage as the Panama Canal increases the volume of cargo for the Caribbean in the coming years,” said Richard Harrison, Managing Director of Maritime at Zebra Enterprise Solutions. “Our software will help SPRC to achieve continuous improvement through timely monitoring and quality analysis that allows managers to make better strategic decisions faster.” About Zebra Enterprise Solutions Zebra Enterprise Solutions, a division of Zebra Technologies Corporation, extends Zebra's reach beyond passive RFID by employing state-of-the-art software and hardware solutions to locate, track, manage, and optimize high-value assets, equipment and people across the world's largest supply chains.
