Think You're Ready for Retirement? Del Webb Launches Online Lifestyle Advisor to Find Out11:50 EDT Thursday, June 17, 2010 BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. (Business Wire) -- The nation's leading 55+ community builder has launched a new online survey that analyzes the core motivations of active adult homebuyers. Del Webb launched its online Lifestyle Advisor this week as a tool to help assess the psychological motivations of active adult homebuyers and give insight on how to plan for and enjoy their next stage of life. The 32-question survey, available on www.delwebb.com, was created in collaboration with psychologists and a research company after the builder interviewed hundreds of buyers and non-buyers. The scientific results are very likely to indicate whether the survey-taker would find a Del Webb community a great place to live or not. Using an algorithm created to translate answers from four key factors that touch and influence optimal health, well-being and quality of life issues, (Staying vs. Moving; Varied Age Community vs. Like Ages; Spontaneity vs. Planned Activities; and Status Quo vs. A New Life), the survey takes some of the uncertainty out of making the move to an active adult community for potential buyers. “The Lifestyle Advisor identifies factors that people 55+ may want to consider in determining their ideal future lifestyle,” said Ian Wild, national director of research for Del Webb. With one in four Americans 55 and older, Wild said the Lifestyle Advisor provides valuable feedback because it centers on attitudes versus things like age and hobbies. And with the oldest of the nation's nearly 78 million baby boomers just beginning to enter retirement age, the decision on where to live the next phase of life can be daunting. “For 50 years, Del Webb has seen a consistent theme among its active adult residents – they want to live life to the fullest,” said Wild. “The survey helps to identify the psychological motivations that define what ‘living life to the fullest' means for each individual and then helps determine if a Del Webb community can help achieve this goal.” The survey solicits answers ranging from “agree” to “disagree” on statements such as: “Moving means I would have to let go of my family and friendships” and “Recreational activities are nearly as important as a house to me.” While the answers help homebuyers plan their retirement and pre-retirement years, the survey reflects Del Webb's in-depth knowledge of this buyer and the active adult communities it builds across the nation, said Deborah Blake, Del Webb national director of marketing. “This survey draws on Del Webb's 50 years of experience in meeting the social, physical and emotional needs of today's active adults,” Blake said, adding that Del Webb communities continue to be popular because they innovate and evolve to reflect the changing needs of active adults. “Del Webb communities offer residents an active, facilitated lifestyle that affords the largest growing segment of the American population the opportunity to experience life as they see fit.” After taking the online survey, which takes about 10 minutes, respondents immediately receive a customized letter with results on the four topic areas. The results provide insight into the respondent's attitudes and factors they may want to consider in determining their retirement lifestyle. Del Webb created the initial survey concept nearly ten years ago and mailed prospective homebuyers 76-questions as a paper survey which they in-turn mailed back for analysis. The concept was effective in identifying a Del Webb community fit, but turnaround was slow and the survey was lengthy. This year, Del Webb reexamined the Lifestyle Advisor to bring it up to 2010-standards: shorter in length and available on the internet. For more information on the survey, visit www.delwebb.com.
