Happy Creek Drills 7.1 metres of 0.95% Copper in Zone 2, Highland Valley B.C.14:00 EDT Monday, July 05, 2010(via Thenewswire.ca) July 5, 2010 - Vancouver, British Columbia - Happy Creek Minerals Ltd. (TSX-V: HPY, the "Company") announces *preliminary analytical results from another drill hole in Zone 2 of the Rateria property, Highland Valley area B.C. The Rateria property adjoins the property of Teck's Highland Valley copper mine, Canada's largest copper producer, located in south central British Columbia. The Highland Valley mine is currently mining material from three different open pits that average approximately 0.30 percent (%) copper. New results from drilling in Zone 2 include R10-9 returning 7.1 metres containing 0.95% copper, 4.2 g/t (grams per tonne) silver from surface at the top of the hole. This hole is located approximately 150 and 450 metres north of R10- 5 and R10-1, respectively. A plan map showing the locations of drill holes in Zone 2 will be posted to the Company's website shortly. Previous drill results from Zone 2 include 177 metres grading 0.37% copper, and 103.3 metres grading 0.34% copper. In January, 2010, Happy Creek announced positive rhenium values occur that include 12.0 metres containing 1.38% copper and 2.85 g/t rhenium and up to 1.5 metres of 0.27% copper, 0.239% molybdenum and 19.37 g/t rhenium. Rhenium (Re) is a rare metal used dominantly in high temperature and strength alloys, and in catalysts for heavy oil refining, with prices ranging from approximately $5.0 to $10.0 per gram* over the past few years. Locally, Zone 2 also contains positive gold values including drill intervals of 3.0 metres grading 0.65% copper and 1.48 g/t gold. "Zone 2 has now returned multiple 3 to 27 metre drill intervals containing around one percent copper or more and wider intervals of potentially economic grade within an area a kilometre in length and 600 metres in width" states David Blann, President of Happy Creek. "This phase of drilling has doubled the length and tripled the width of the mineralized system, and we are pleased to continue to intersect these higher grade structures. The style of alteration, mineralization and presence of significant copper, molybdenum, rhenium, gold and silver values is thought to reflect early stage results of a new and potentially large scale porphyry copper system in Highland Valley". Copper mineralization in Zone 2 is comprised of bornite, chalcocite and chalcopyrite (copper sulphides) associated with quartz, k-feldspar and variable chlorite and sericite alteration, and almost no pyrite (iron sulphide). This mineralized zone occurs near the northeast end of an important geological and geophysical "corridor" that is over 5 kilometres in length. Mineralization in Zone 2 remains undefined and open in extent. Phase one of the 2010 drilling in Zone 2 is now complete with receipt of preliminary results from nine holes. Analyses are planned to determine total copper, molybdenum, rhenium, gold and silver concentrations of the significant intervals returned, and further drilling in Zone 2 is planned. Preliminary results from three holes in Zone 1 are pending. On behalf of the Board of Directors, "David E Blann" ____________________ David E Blann, P.Eng. President David Blann, P.Eng. is a Qualified Person as defined by National Instrument 43-101 and is responsible for the preparation and approval of the technical information disclosed in the news release. *Preliminary analyses were performed by Agat Laboratories of Ontario using a geochemical aqua regia digest and ICP-MS finish. Aqua regia digest may be partial for molybdenum and rhenium. Results for copper, molybdenum, silver and rhenium are provided in PPM (parts per million or grams per tonne), with copper and molybdenum values converted to % by dividing by 10,000. Quality control protocol includes routine insertion of blanks, standards and duplicates in addition to the laboratory internal controls. Rhenium price range is from Minor Metals.com.
