The Largest Container Port in Trinidad and Tobago to Implement Navis SPARCS N408:01 EDT Wednesday, October 06, 2010 OAKLAND, Calif. (Business Wire) -- Zebra Enterprise Solutions, a division of Zebra Technologies (NASDAQ:ZBRA), announced today that the Port of Port of Spain (PPOS) in Trinidad and Tobago will replace its five-year-old terminal operating system (TOS) with Navis SPARCS N4 to improve operations and productivity in the emerging Caribbean market. The Port is located in Port of Spain, which is Trinidad and Tobago's capital city. PPOS is the largest container port in Trinidad and Tobago, handling the majority of the country's containerized imports, exports and transshipments. For five years, PPOS relied on the CTMS TOS software before deciding to implement the NavisSPARCS N4 solution to increase performance and efficiency. “As part of our strategy, we plan on growing the volume to 500,000 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units, a standard container measure in intermodal transport) in the next five years,” said Trudy Gill-Conlon, COO at PPOS. “Currently, we are at 400,000 TEU. Without Navis, it would be very difficult to achieve our anticipated growth and increase our efficiency - as well as serving our customers and truckers with greater efficiency.” The Navis SPARCS N4 operating system is the leading software solution for real-time graphical planning and control of container terminals. It allows for advanced optimization and productivity, increased yard utilization and reduced labor and equipment costs and can be tailored to tackle unique characteristics of any terminal operation. The web-based SPARCS N4 operating system governs the movement of container logistics and operations and offers users improved customer support, lower operating costs and increased utilization. It enables greater control over resources for operations to quickly and intelligently respond to changes in the flow of cargo. “Navis SPARCS N4 was the logical solution for us,” said Hugh Gibson – IT Manager at PPOS. “It is the best system for us to position the Port of Port of Spain for future growth, and enable more efficient use of assets to facilitate expanding customer requirements.” Bill Walsh, General Manager at Zebra Enterprise Solutions, said Navis SPARCS N4 will be a critical component in helping the terminal deliver on its long-term growth plan. “Navis SPARCS N4 is the system that will take PPOS to the next level to support its anticipated growth,” Walsh said. “SPARCS N4's unique combination of functional capabilities and built-in best practices will put PPOS on track to achieving its plan of increasing size and shipping capabilities.” About Zebra Enterprise Solutions Zebra Enterprise Solutions, a division of Zebra Technologies Corporation, extends Zebra's reach beyond passive RFID by employing state-of-the-art software and hardware solutions to locate, track, manage, and optimize high-value assets, equipment and people across the world's largest supply chains.
