CANAM CANADA'S BUILDMASTER(TM) APPROACH REDUCES ON-SITE CONSTRUCTION TIME BY UP TO 25%17:00 EST Thursday, December 02, 2010TORONTO, Dec. 2 /CNW Telbec/ - Canam Canada, a business unit of Canam Group Inc. (TSX: CAM) and the leading steel joist and steel deck fabricator in Canada, today is launching its BuildMaster construction approach to coincide with Construct Canada, the largest building design and construction show in Canada. BuildMaster is a safer, faster and greener approach that redefines the way buildings are designed and constructed. The BuildMaster approach is a completely new, better organized and more efficient way of doing things. It is intended to achieve a structured construction site and hence reduce the time spent on erecting a steel structure by 15 to 25%. This approach also features technological applications designed specifically to be compatible with the iPhone in order to facilitate the remote management of any stage of a construction project, while maintaining connectivity with all project stakeholders."BuildMaster is an initiative launched by Canam Canada for the greater benefit of our customers and is a bold step forward in the Canadian construction industry," said Joël Nadeau, vice president of Canam Canada. "Our goal in introducing this approach is to optimize our performance and increase our presence in the commercial and industrial construction markets as well as stay ahead of our main competition."BuildMaster: A proven, simple and efficient processBuildMaster is the culmination of two years of research and development, consultations held with customers and 30-plus pilot projects carried out across Canada. "A number of national retail chains and real estate developers have already reaped the benefits of using BuildMaster on the construction of their most recent building and have experienced firsthand its direct impact on their construction schedule," added Mr. Nadeau. "We very much appreciate their contribution and their invaluable help in getting this construction approach off the ground."The philosophy behind BuildMaster is simple: if the erector's work is simplified, then the entire construction process will be better organized, safer, faster and greener. The first in a series of improvements involves Canam Canada steel products, which henceforth are delivered in sorted and tagged bundles, limiting the number of handling operations and therefore reducing the risk of error and accident. In addition, the steel is delivered in an ordered sequence, allowing workers to work faster and more efficiently on a well-organized, unobstructed jobsite and giving them a clearer vision of the work that needs to be accomplished. To make the process even more efficient, Canam Canada pre-assembles certain elements and clearly identifies all components before they leave the plant. These improvements not only help to reduce the quantity of on-site equipments and the hours spent using these equipments, but also make a positive contribution to reducing greenhouse gases.iPhone applicationsTo increase connectivity among project stakeholders, Canam Canada offers three different iPhone applications. The "Jobsite" application allows installers and general contractors to, among other things, follow up in real time on materials, received shipments and shipments to come. The "Project" application allows building owners to track the progress of their project at any time. Finally, the "Engineering" application, which was previously only available in web format, allows engineers to calculate economical joist depth. Members of the engineering community will also be able to approve joist drawings faster thanks to Canam's new, online "eApproval" software."The BuildMaster approach is constantly evolving," said Mr. Nadeau. "Canam continues to seek input from its partners in an effort to improve construction processes and contribute to the development of technological tools."Visit the BuildMaster website at www.buildmaster.com to learn about the many advantages of BuildMaster and view testimonials of Canam Canada customers who have experienced this new approach.About Canam CanadaCanam Canada specializes in the fabrication of steel joists, joist girders and steel deck and is also the exclusive distributor of structural and architectural metal deck products, known as Versa-Dek® and Deep-Dek®, in Canada.
