Travelers Catastrophe Response Team Assists in Tornado Recovery09:20 EDT Friday, April 29, 2011 HARTFORD, Conn. (Business Wire) -- In response to the tornadoes and extreme weather that impacted the South, Travelers (NYSE: TRV) has deployed a number of additional claim professionals and support staff drawn from its Catastrophe Team and other areas within the Claim organization to help customers recover from the devastating storms. Catastrophe responders support locally based claim operations to quickly access and assist customers. The company is monitoring the situation closely from its national Catastrophe Management Center and can deploy more resources as needed. Travelers Mobile Claim Offices -- fully self-contained claim offices on wheels -- have been deployed to the hardest hit areas surrounding Birmingham and Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Chattanooga, Tenn., to provide another way for affected customers to begin the recovery process. Customers are welcome to visit one to start a claim, learn about next steps, access third-party disaster resources, or simply access Travelers' communications network. Their hours of operation are 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. local time. Updated locations of the Mobile Claim Offices can be found on Travelers.com. “We are focused on making a difference for customers impacted by the record number of tornadoes this April by helping them recover as quickly as they can,” said Patrick Gee, Senior Vice President, Claim for Travelers. “The devastation that is occurring as a result of the extreme weather is truly unfortunate and everyone in our Claim organization is working hard to be there for our customers.” Travelers reminds individuals who have experienced damage to their home, car or business to make sure everyone is safe, then promptly report the claim. Claims can be reported by calling the numbers below, visiting a Mobile Claim Office, or reporting it online as follows: Home and Auto Insurance Claims:800.CLAIM33 (800.252.4633) / Report a Home or Auto Claim Online Business Insurance Claims:800.238.6225 / Report a Business Claim Online For helpful information about what to do after experiencing property damage or to find updated locations of the Mobile Claim Offices, visit Travelers.com or follow updates on the Travelers Facebook and Twitter pages. Background on Mobile Claim OfficesThese first-in-the-industry vehicles were developed as a result of lessons learned from Hurricane Andrew, which devastated parts of Florida in 1992. They are staffed by catastrophe response team members and equipped with everything required to process claims in the midst of a disaster, such as onboard computers and databases, printers, photocopiers, cell phones, and fax machines. Each vehicle has its own generator, so they can operate in places without electricity and can process claims through wireless or satellite connectivity if land lines are not available.
