KB Home Makes a Splash with EPA's WaterSense Labeled New Homes14:00 EDT Wednesday, May 18, 2011 ROSEVILLE, Calif. (Business Wire) -- KB Home (NYSE: KBH), one of America's premier homebuilders, held a special event today at its Springwood community in Roseville to showcase the nation's first homes to earn the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's WaterSense® label. The WaterSense program provides a blueprint for homes that help homeowners save water and energy. The new homes can save a family of four up to 50,000 gallons of water annually both inside and out compared to a typical American home, enough to fill five residential swimming pools. Since teaming up with EPA's WaterSense program in Roseville, KB Home has also started two additional new home communities that feature WaterSense labeled homes in Texas and Florida. During the event held today at the community, members of the media and local officials toured the new WaterSense labeled homes and watched as a huge dump truck load of blue school yard dodge balls were spilled out, symbolizing the amount of water a WaterSense labeled home saves in less than one week. The group was also joined by middle school students from the Roseville City School District, who learned about water saving technologies and competed in a WaterSense themed game dubbed “QuizMania.” A side-by-side flushing display of an older inefficient toilet and a new WaterSense labeled toilet showed the gallons saved per flush in clear collection containers. “KB Home's leadership in building environmentally conscious homes was once again on display today at this first-of-its-kind community of WaterSense labeled homes,” said Chris Apostolopoulos, president of KB Home's Northern California division. “Water is a very precious resource, here in Northern California and across the country, and these homes are in the forefront of using water-saving technologies to help homeowners save money and help protect our water supply. We hope today's event helped raise awareness of the importance of water conservation in our day-to-day living.” EPA's WaterSense program offers a national label for water-efficient new homes that helps Americans identify houses that save water, energy and money on utility bills. “The City of Roseville is proud to have a community that is making history and setting a new standard for water and energy efficient living, and we commend KB Home for their leadership in this area,” said Pauline Roccucci, Mayor of the City of Roseville. “Events like the one we held today are important because they help us all understand the impact our choices can have on the environment. This was a wonderful educational experience for our students.” KB Home's Springwood community is located just east of Sacramento, near excellent schools, two parks and the popular Galleria Mall. Home shoppers have their choice of four floor plans ranging in size from 1,774 to 2,597 square feet, with up to six bedrooms and three baths, starting at $255,000. In addition to earning the WaterSense label, the homes at Springwood are also GreenPoint Rated, which means they have met rigorous standards in the areas of energy-efficiency, water conservation, indoor air quality, resource conservation and livable communities. Additional Built to Order™ choices include everything from solar panels to kitchen islands.
