ChinaComm Selects Tellabs for Broadband Wireless Access Core Network09:30 EDT Monday, June 06, 2011Tellabs SmartCore platform to be rolled out in 10 key markets across ChinaNAPERVILLE, Ill., June 6, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- ChinaComm selected the Tellabs SmartCore® 9100 platform for a packet core network for broadband wireless access services in Beijing and across nine other Chinese markets for a total of 10 markets in nine provinces, representing more than 90% of the markets where ChinaComm initially plans to deploy broadband wireless services. The SmartCore® 9100 platform will support broadband wireless access networks from various manufacturers, eliminating the need to use separate access service network (ASN) gateways."We chose Tellabs SmartCore® 9100 platform because of its interoperability with multiple broadband wireless access vendors and its ability to support future service expansion," said Mr. Zhu Shurong, Chief Technology Officer for ChinaComm. "This decision will help us simplify network operations and save operational expenses by eliminating the need to manage and maintain two separate ASN gateways.""The SmartCore® 9100 platform is well suited to the needs of ChinaComm," said Chenhong Huang, vice president for Tellabs China. "The industry-leading throughput and advanced capabilities of the platform will help ChinaComm in providing value-added services for its enterprise customers and individual consumers. While large Chinese RAN vendors are enjoying increasing success and market penetration in China and around the world with their radio solutions, ChinaComm's selection of the Tellabs SmartCore® 9100 platform demonstrates the product can compete with solutions from these vendors even in their home markets. Several wireless operators around the world have chosen Tellabs as their dominant packet core vendor, yielding us proven experience in real-world deployment." ChinaComm is building out its radio access network with radios from leading RAN vendors. ChinaComm's decision to select a single independent packet core vendor for the core of its network reflects a growing industry trend to focus on best-of-breed rather than selecting a single end-to-end RAN provider. The heart of ChinaComm's wireless broadband access core network deployment will be Tellabs SmartCore® 9160 platform, the 4G packet core platform in the industry. ChinaComm chose the Tellabs SmartCore® 9160 platform for its unmatched throughput, smart content management and service flow based-design. The Tellabs SmartCore® 9160 platform enables carriers to provide value-added services such as differentiated quality of service (QoS), service-level agreements and location-based services, based on customer preferences.   About Tellabs ?
