Zebra Technologies Joins the Navis STAR Technology Alliance11:00 EDT Friday, June 17, 2011 OAKLAND, Calif. (Business Wire) -- Navis, a part of Cargotec Corporation and the global technology standard for managing the movement of cargo through terminals, today announced that Zebra Technologies Corporation is now a part of the Navis Star Technology Alliance, bringing together the maritime industry's leading terminal operating solution (TOS) with best-of-breed RTLS and RFID technologies vendors to offer complete solutions for terminal operating customers. The alliance allows Navis to develop fully integrated solutions utilizing Zebra's WhereNet hardware, Wheretags, Whereport, and middleware for use in marine ports and terminals. Zebra Technologies, a recognized global leader in bar code, kiosk, card and RFID printers as well as real-time location solutions, joins the Navis Star Technology Alliance after divesting Navis in early 2011. By maintaining a strong working relationship and joining the alliance, Navis can now exclusively provide Zebra's WhereNet hardware solutions to the marine terminal market. Together, Navis and Zebra are already providing WhereNet radio frequency identification (RFID) tags for use in the Los Angeles Long Beach Clean Truck Program, where more than 15,000 trucks are tagged in order to gain access to the ports and terminals and ensure environmental compliance. “Zebra's WhereNet hardware is a recognized leader in the marine terminal industry and we are pleased to continue our strong relationship with the company,” said Bill Walsh, president and CEO of Navis, LLC. “We look forward to building on the already established success of our integrated solution by providing customers with the latest technology and market intelligence that delivers measureable benefits to their business.” “Strategic channel relationships are an essential component to Zebra's business and we are excited to establish a formal partnership with Navis,” said Mike Terzich, senior vice president, Global Sales & Marketing. “Zebra's WhereNet and Dart RTLS hardware components will complement Navis' industry leading terminal operating systems and provide their customers all over the world with industry-leading, turn-key solutions.” In addition to Zebra Technologies, the Navis Star Technology Alliance also includes third-party technology vendors APS Technology Group, Symeo GmbH and arl-shipping.com.
