World class fibre-to-the-home network continues expansion in Nova Scotia15:28 EDT Wednesday, July 06, 2011New Glasgow and Annapolis Valley areas getting FibreOPTM servicesHALIFAX, July 6, 2011 /CNW/ - FibreOPTMexpansion continues in Nova Scotia providing an additional 27,000 residents in the New Glasgow and Annapolis Valley areas with access to Bell Aliant's advanced fibre-to-the-home network. The additional $13 million investment announced today brings the overall FibreOP investment in the province to more than $83 million."We are investing significantly in this network and our FibreOP services in the province so that customers can experience Internet and TV to their full potential, whether it's for a school project, working from home or pure entertainment," said Kelly Duplisea, VP FibreOP and TV. "FibreOP services and bundles not only provide the fastest Internet upload and download speeds available, but now include the best in-market TV product available for customers in these communities."The first customers in New Glasgow will come online later in July, including areas of Trenton, Westville, Stellarton and Pictou. Services will follow in areas of the Annapolis Valley, including Windsor, Wolfville, Kentville and New Minas beginning in the fall.FibreOP services are currently available in the Halifax Regional Municipality in the communities of Spryfield, Beechville, Timberlea and Lakeside and will be largely complete by the end of the year in remaining areas including Halifax, Dartmouth, Eastern Passage, Cole Harbour, Sackville, Hammonds Plains, Waverley, Timberlea, Bedford, St. Margaret's Bay and Lake Echo. The network was also completed earlier this year in Sydney, Sydney River, Glace Bay, North Sydney, Sydney Mines and New Waterford.Earlier this year, Bell Aliant announced the next generation of Internet and TV service with FibreOP 2.0. With FibreOP Internet service customers can now upload as fast as you download - a first in Canada for any major service provider. FibreOP offers the fastest speeds in Nova Scotia enabling customers to not only download music or movies and share video or photos faster than ever before, but also accommodate the growing need for multiple users within the home.Existing FibreOP Internetcustomers have been upgraded to the new FibreOP 2.0 Internet product with no additional fees or need for an equipment upgrade. Bell Aliant will also upgrade existing Bell Aliant TV customers and FibreOP TV customers to the new TV product over the coming months, at no extra cost to the customer, no change to existing equipment and no home visit.FibreOP 2.0 TV also provides enhanced functions and features for TV. This includes the Best Whole Home PVR, where one PVR powers the whole house. Customers can start watching a recording in one room and finish in another, including the capacity to record up to four shows at the same time. Customers can control their PVR from any location in the home.
