Waste Management raises $375,000 for local charities09:38 EDT Friday, August 05, 2011Waste Management hosts fund raising golf tournament in Ottawa to support local community groupsOTTAWA, Aug. 5, 2011 /CNW/ - Waste Management (NYSE:WM) held its annual corporate fundraising golf tournament in Ottawa this week, raising $375,000 for local charities in Ottawa and Napanee, Ontario.The local organizations that received funds from the golf tournament included the Western Ottawa Resource Centre, the West Carleton Health Access Foundation and Stittsville Food Bank.  Other organizations receiving funding were: The Queensway Carleton Hospital Foundation; The Down Syndrome Association - National Capital Region; The Royal Ottawa Foundation - Do It For Daron; The West Carleton Amateur Sport Club, and; Habitat for Humanity - National Capital Region.Waste Management held its corporate fundraiser for the first time in Canada.  More than 200 persons attended the two-day event, which was hosted at the Marshes Golf Club on August 2 and 3.  Members of Waste Management senior management team traveled to Ottawa to participate in the golf tournament and meet with local charitable groups.Ross Wallace, West Carleton Environmental Centre Site Manager said, "This golf tournament is a unique opportunity for Waste Management to recognize and contribute to those organizations that support our community."The tournament also raised monies for local charitable organizations in Napanee, Ontario where Waste Management has operations.About Waste Management, Inc.Waste Management, Inc., based in Houston, Texas, is the leading provider of comprehensive waste management services in North America.
