Molson Coors Makes Major Donation to Pointe-à-Callière Foundation08:00 EDT Wednesday, September 14, 2011Brewer celebrates 225 years of history with pledge of support for museum expansion project MONTREAL, Sept. 14, 2011 /CNW Telbec/ - Molson Coors donated yesterday an amount of $325 000 to Pointe-à-Callière Foundation in support of the planned expansion of the Montreal Museum of Archaeology and History. The company thus becomes one of the first private donors to pledge support for this important cultural initiative in the heart of Montreal. The announcement was made in the presence of brothers Andrew and Geoff Molson, Dave Perkins, President and Chief Executive Officer of Molson Coors Canada, Francine Lelièvre, Executive Director of Pointe-à-Callière Museum, and a host of dignitaries. The event, staged on museum premises, also made it possible to underscore, in a location generally regarded as the birthplace of Montreal, the 225th anniversary of the brewery, as well as the contribution of John Molson to the development of the city since the founding of the brewery on the shores of the St Lawrence back in 1786."This donation by Molson Coors is crucial to Pointe-à-Callière Museum and provides a welcome measure of optimism. The initial stage of our project is already under way, but we are now seeking funding for the second stage of our expansion project and for what is destined to become the Pointe-à-Callière Archaeology and History Complex. It is indeed essential that recent archaeological and historical discoveries surrounding St Anne's Market and the Parliament of the United Province of Canada not be forgotten. Accordingly, Molson Coors has agreed to provide substantive support for our expansion project," stated Daniel Desjardins, Senior Vice President, Legal Affairs with Bombardier and Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of Pointe-à-Callière Foundation, who graciously accepted the donation on behalf of the Foundation.Molson Coors, the oldest brewery still in operation in North America and the second oldest company in Canada, continues to perpetuate a tradition of community commitment instigated by founder John Molson over two centuries ago. "We are as delighted to contribute to this important community initiative as we are to help Pointe-à-Callière Museum honour the history and heritage of Montreal," pointed up Andrew Molson, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Molson Coors and 7th generation member of the Molson family.Complete details on the expansion project are available on the Museum's website at www.pacmuseum.qc.caAbout Molson Coors CanadaWith roots dating from 1786, Molson Coors Canada is proudly celebrating its 225th anniversary this year.
