IBI Group Inc. announces the closing of the merger of the professional practice of Dull Olson Weekes Architects, Inc. (DOWA) with the professional practice of the IBI Group of Firms18:45 EDT Wednesday, September 28, 2011TORONTO, Sept. 28, 2011 /CNW/ - IBI Group Inc. (TSX: IBG). IBI Group Inc. announced today the closing of the merger of the professional practice of Dull Olson Weekes Architects, Inc., ("DOWA"), with the professional practice of the IBI Group of Firms. The DOWA practice will continue as a member of the IBI Group of Firms with the hyphenated name (DOWA-IBI Group).Since the founding of the Firm by three Principals, Norman Dull, Steve Olson and John Weekes, in 1986, some 25 years ago, DOWA has established an outstanding reputation providing professional architectural services.  The practice is known for its high quality of design, technical competence, as well as social consciousness in its approach to sustainability and other societal values.  Focus of the work of the firm has been in educational facilities in the State of Oregon, centered in Portland. In addition, other work in social infrastructure and health and community facilities has been successfully undertaken as well.  The work of the firm has been recognized with projects undertaken in the State of Washington, as well as elsewhere in the United States, including some international projects. The firm has proceeded in an organized fashion to build the practice which today comprises in addition to the three principals, five experienced Associate Principals, namely, Amy Friendy, Dan Hess, Keith Johnson, Renee Kroupa and Karina Ruiz.  These eight leaders have all committed to continue with the practice.Phil Beinhaker, Chairman Director and CEO of IBI Group noted that, "the three DOWA principals and their five Associate Principal colleagues and staff have established and maintain an outstanding practice in the design of education and social infrastructure in the Pacific Northwest, including recognition elsewhere.  The merger of this practice within the IBI Group of Firms will complement the existing practice of IBI Group in the Northwest which to date has been primarily based in the transportation infrastructure sectors including intelligent systems and functional planning and design of transportation/transit facilities.  This combination of social infrastructure along with transportation infrastructure is providing IBI with a strong, sustainable base across the United States as IBI succeeds in its plan of establishing national practices in these broad areas.  We expect that these leaders, in affiliation with the IBI Group of Firms will grow to assume, over time, roles of leadership in the context of the IBI Group of Firms.  We will expect that their skills in architecture will broaden from their primary base of education into IBI's national healthcare strategy and other social infrastructure, as well as participating in projects elsewhere.  With this affiliation, the total complement of professionals within the IBI Group of Firms is now approximately 2,800 people operating through some 76 offices worldwide."The Principals of DOWA noted that, "This merger arises from our planning over some time to provide for the continuation and broadening of our practice to other areas of practice within the Pacific Northwest, as well as participating in design opportunities for buildings elsewhere in the United States and internationally.  This merger will enable DOWA to expand operations by providing our talents through IBI offices across the United States, Canada and internationally.  Our professional staff is excited by these opportunities that lay ahead in our broad future."About IBI Group Inc.IBI Group Inc. is a TSX listed company which pays monthly dividends and trades under the symbol "IBG" IBI Group Inc. holds an indirect 75% interest in IBI Group, a Partnership (of a subsidiary of IBI Group Inc. and IBI Group Management Partnership) which, directly and through its subsidiary entities, provides professional services, including planning, design, implementation, analysis of operations and other consulting services in relation to four main areas of development, being Urban Land, Building Facilities, Transportation Networks and Intelligent Systems.
