JAKKS Pacific's Tollytots® Division Seeks To Inspire & Puzzle A New Generation With A Licensing Agreement for Rubik's Early Learning Toys06:30 EDT Wednesday, October 05, 2011 MALIBU, Calif. (Business Wire) -- JAKKS Pacific's (NASDAQ:JAKK) Tollytots® division has signed a long term agreement with Seven Towns Limited, the owners of Rubik's® Cube, to manufacture, distribute and market a line of early learning pre-school toys, named Rubik's Clever Kids™, based on this iconic brand and one of the world's top selling puzzles. JAKKS Pacific's (NASDAQ:JAKK) Tollytots(R) division announced today an agreement with Seven Towns Limited, the owners of Rubik's(R) Cube, to create a line of early learning pre-school toys, named Rubik's Clever Kids(TM), based on this iconic brand and one of the world's top selling puzzles. (Photo: Business Wire) It has been more than 30 years since Hungarian university lecturer Dr. Erno Rubik invented his mind-boggling, colored cube and introduced it to the world. Rubik's Clever Kids™ pre-school line builds on parental recognition of the Rubik's brand and offers a unique approach to developmental toys for young kids featuring a variety of fun activities while at the same time teaching important developmental and motor skills through the use of colors, shapes and of course, puzzle-solving... all harnessing a little of that Rubik cleverness, synonymous with the Rubik's Cube itself! “The Rubik's Cube is more than just a toy, it is a cultural phenomenon that has inspired everything from art and culture to particle physics,” said Darryl Wizenberg, President, Tollytots. “We are excited to tap into the enormous worldwide popularity, fascination and fun factor of the iconic Rubik's Cubes with a line of original and creative toys that will keep young children immersed in hours of stimulating play.” The deal was brokered by The Sharpe Company, Inc. which represents Rubik's Cube in North America on behalf of Seven Towns Ltd., international developers, agents and licensors for many of the nation's favorite toys and games, and the owner of the rights to the Rubik's brand. “Seven Towns and Sharpe are thrilled to be working with Tollytots,” said Charlie Day, president of Sharpe. “The Rubik's brand will extend extremely well into preschool and early learning toys through the smart, colorful, stimulating and unique features that Tollytots will incorporate in their line. We have been actively looking for the best partner for this important product sector and we have found the perfect one in Tollytots. We know they will create an extensive line of exciting merchandise appealing to a new younger generation of Rubik's fans and their parents.” Tollytots expects to launch the Rubik's product line at retailers nationwide in Fall 2012. About Rubik's® Cube The fiendishly difficult, but entrancing Rubik's Cube (350 million have been sold since its launch in 1980) may have 43,252,003,274,489,856,000 possible combinations on its six colored faces – but it has only ONE solution. Once it has been ‘scrambled' you solve The Cube by twisting its fifty-four squares around the ingenious central axis - until all six faces consist of solid blocks of color. Now once again enjoying enormous popularity worldwide, the iconic Rubik's Cube's fascination and fun factor is undiminished. Rather, it is magnified by the power of the web's social networking possibilities, providing super-celebrity status for the ‘wonder boy' Speedcubers – some of whom, in World Championships attracting hundreds of entries from all five continents, solve the puzzle in less than 10 seconds or just over a half a minute - blindfolded. The current World Record Holder for solving The Cube is Feliks Zemdegs from Australia, who in June 2011, achieved the incredible ‘single solve' time of 5.66 seconds. About The Sharpe Company, Inc.
