Subscription Model for BostonGlobe.com Launches Wednesday, October 1912:36 EDT Tuesday, October 18, 2011 BOSTON (Business Wire) -- The Boston Globe announced today that the free trial period for BostonGlobe.com ends today and that the paid subscription model will launch tomorrow morning, Wednesday, October 19 at 5:00 A.M. BostonGlobe.com is the only site that provides access to the full range and depth of the Globe's journalism, along with offering video, photo galleries and breaking news throughout the day, all in an elegantly-designed format, optimized for reading on a tablet, smartphone, laptop or desktop. “We've been pleased with the response to BostonGlobe.com during the free trial and are excited about entering this new phase of the initiative, where we'll be introducing new features such as comments, and our new loyalty program, Boston Globe Insiders,” said Chris Mayer, the publisher of the Globe. To prepare for the transition the site will be taken down today at Noon through to 5:00 A.M. tomorrow morning. The subscription price for BostonGlobe.com is $3.99 per week and print subscribers to the Globe will get complete access to BostonGlobe.com for free. The Globe also announced a special promotional subscription offer of $0.99 which will provide access to BostonGlobe.com for a full four weeks. The special price of $0.99 is not a per week fee, but covers all four of the first weeks of a subscription.
