MDA to provide land-cover changes on a global scale17:00 EDT Thursday, October 20, 2011RICHMOND, BC, Oct. 20, 2011 /CNW/ - MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (TSX: MDA), a provider of essential information solutions, announced today that its U.S. operation has signed a US$17 million contract with the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency (NGA) to provide apparent changes in land-cover anywhere around the globe. Under the initial 12 months contract, MDA will deliver changes for more than 100 million square kilometers of the Earth's land surface. The contract includes two option years, valued at US$4 million each.Overlaying satellite images from multiple dates, MDA's sophisticated software identifies changes in land-cover that persist regardless of seasonal changes or weather effects. Changes identified are typically caused by human activities. Knowing where these changes occur allows the customer to focus on the areas of change when updating their global data base of maps. This allows map updating to be done more frequently in rapidly changing areas and less frequently elsewhere, significantly improving the customer's efficiency.About MDA MDA provides advanced information solutions that capture and process vast amounts of data, produce essential information, and improve the decision making and operational performance of business and government organizations worldwide.Focused on markets and customers with strong repeat business potential, MDA delivers a broad spectrum of information solutions, ranging from complex operational systems, to tailored information services, to electronic information products. The Company's common shares trade on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol TSX:MDA.Related Websites:www.mdacorporation.comForward-Looking StatementsThis release contains forward-looking statements and information, which reflect the current view of MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd.
