Smithfield Foods Brings Awareness to Food Insecurity Through Live Twitter Event
Tuesday, December 13, 2011
SMITHFIELD, Va., Dec. 13, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- On December 16, 2011 Dennis Treacy, Executive Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer and Kathleen Kirkham, Sustainability Coordinator, will host a live Twitter dialogue to bring awareness to issues concerning hunger in America. Treacy, Kirkham and area food banks will join forces to use this one hour discussion to engage in an open forum with their Twitter communities. The discussion will be an opportunity for us to talk about the current state of hunger in America, personal stories about hunger, how both companies and individuals can be involved in solving the problem and the changing landscape of food production.
Questions or personal stories relating to hunger can be submitted the week leading up to the event via Twitter to @SmithfieldCSR using #SFDHunger.
The event will start at 1:00 EST. To participate follow @SmithfieldCSR on Twitter and tweet questions using #SFDHunger. Those unable to make this event are encouraged to submit their questions using the new interactive Q & A function on smithfieldcommitments.com, the company's new interactive corporate social responsibility website.
Smithfield Foods participates in the fight to end hunger through Helping Hungry Homes, a companywide initiative focused on food bank donations, school nutrition programs, disaster relief and community outreach. In 2011, Smithfield Foods donated 8.3 million servings of food.
