KB Home Now Offering Net-Zero Energy Homes in Colorado13:00 EST Friday, January 20, 2012 MORRISON, Colo. (Business Wire) -- KB Home (NYSE: KBH), one of the nation's premier homebuilders, unveiled its first net-zero energy home in Colorado during a special event held today at its Bear Creek Meadows community in Morrison. At the event, KB Home employees and Donald Rosier, Chairman of the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners, hosted a group of area school children for a morning of education, games and a guided tour of the innovative new home, dubbed ZeroHouse 2.0. KB Home already builds 100% of its new homes to U.S. EPA's ENERGY STAR® standards, helping homebuyers save an estimated $1,000 annually when compared to a typical resale home. The opening of the ZeroHouse 2.0 in Morrison continues a national rollout of the net-zero energy homes that KB Home is currently offering in select markets in California, Texas and Florida. Homebuyers in the Denver area are now able to choose a KB home that may eliminate their monthly electricity charges entirely. “ZeroHouse 2.0 is something available only at KB Home and an enhancement to our already incredible Built to Order experience that puts the homebuyer in greater control of their monthly electricity costs and gives them the opportunity to substantially lower them, possibly all the way down to zero,” said Matt Mandino, president of KB Home's Colorado division. “We're excited to show homebuyers in Denver that a net-zero energy home doesn't have to be a future dream, it can be their reality today.” The higher efficiency of the ZeroHouse 2.0 is the result of a whole-home approach, from the inside out, that begins with increased insulation, upgraded HVAC systems and triple-pane, low-e windows and ends with solar panels on the roof. The new model ZeroHouse 2.0 home at Bear Creek Meadows also showcases innovative new technology including an energy monitoring system and automated home controls. “The Jefferson County board and I are so very pleased that KB Home chose our town of Morrison as the place to debut the very best in energy efficiency that is available to all homebuyers today,” said Chairman Rosier. “I encourage all area residents to come check out what KB Home has done here, and if you're in the market for a home, consider a new energy-efficient KB home.” During the morning's special event, students from nearby Kendallvue Elementary participated in a head-to-head quiz-show format game. There were no losers in this game though. At the conclusion of the event, KB Home handed the school's principal, Vicky Ferrari, a check for $3,500, or approximately the same amount of the estimated annual savings that the owner of a ZeroHouse 2.0 would enjoy over a typical existing home. KB Home's ENERGY STAR qualified home designs, as well as ZeroHouse 2.0 efficiency options, are available throughout the Denver area.
